Live. Love. Language.

The languages I listed are simply the the ones I use more often, but are not limited to those I am able to speak and/or teach. Of the three I use Spanish the most (as I use it everyday at work and home). My knowledge and abilities on the languages I speak is not limited to basic textbook understanding. I include all aspects, such as: textbook; common phrases/conversation; and slang. I have been involved with numerous volunteer projects in which I translated and/or taught for different languages and communities. I also have many close friends who's native tongues are of the ones I've listed. I even help teach them and/or their children English.

As a caregiver for my two nephews and one niece I feel that I am very qualified to work with children. Since moving back to Memphis I have been very involved in their education and upbringing. I graduated from Dillard University in New Orleans, La., where I was a tutor for the Saturday Science Academy. In the program, I was responsible for following a strict lesson plan designed to prepare the students for the yearly LEAP Exam, which is equivalent to the Memphis City School's TCAP. I focused on students in grades fourth and fifth in mathematics and reading comprehension. My background in sociology and tutoring combined with my client service experience has provided me with a unique ability to understand and communicate across all age levels and learning types. Typically a stagnant learning experience is accelerated merely by another person being able to express the same statement in several possible ways.
