My teaching style revolves around the idea of mastering important aspects of a subject area before moving to a more difficult subject area. In our current education system, students are allowed to move to more difficult courses without having the necessary building blocks. Through one-on-one tutoring, it is possible to take a couple steps back, assess a student's current capabilities and tailor lessons to the individual student (i.e. one student may need to back track and practice fractions before moving on to more difficult algebra). Having been a lacrosse coach for the past five years will really help me assist every person I tutor in reaching his/her goals. Every child is different, and I have found that finding out how a child learns is just as important, if not more important, than the subject material itself. I am a big believer in setting goals and having a concrete plan as to how we are going to reach those goals. I consider myself a patient person, but I can also see when it may be necessary to push a student who I know can do better for themselves.
