My comments on tutoring Teacher Cert Exams : I have taught Kindergarten, 2nd Grade, 3rd Grade, and 5th Grade. I am certified K-6th grade. I also taught advanced and Intermediate math and language arts in a GED/HiSet program. I currently teach ESOL/CIVICS for an Adult School. I have taken the Praxis I & II exams.

My teaching philosophy starts out with essentialism which believes in a strong core curriculum and high academic standards. I believe it is important to have a strong foundation on which to build upon. After ensuring a strong foundation I tend to lean more towards progressivism. I believe students should be taught what is relevant today while becoming more independent learners, by utilizing problem solving skills and critical thinking. I teach the foundation and build upon that based upon what is relevant in a particular field today. I also include student-centered teaching strategies. I believe in order to learn a student must have base knowledge of a subject that leads into hands on assignments which require mastery of a subject. As a special education teacher, I believe learning should be fun and exciting. I teach students based upon their individual needs and learning styles. I love learning and I try my best to pass that love of learning to my children and my students. Using centers in the class room, is a great way to make learning fun. Centers allow students to be actively engaged by presenting the subject material using a hands-on approach while allowing them to move about the room.
