A Little Bit About Me...

As a graduate of BYU-Idaho I have learned the importance of education and how blessed an individual is who pursues it. I was able to take numerous courses dealing with reading, writing and psychological development of children. I have been been able to work with children and help with areas of struggle since last fall. The ages being between 4-14. I am currently a therapist for children and help them with day to day goals that they are trying to accomplish.
I love interacting with children and teaching them to the best of my ability. I know that each child is unique and you have to truly understand the child and the stresses and concerns they have with learning, before you can teach them. I believe in the Socratic Method. Through this tutoring method, the student is asked questions to help them develop understanding on their own. Through this discovery style, the students actually learn in ways that will be remembered most. I believe that any child, teenager, or adult can learn most effectively through their own discovery, with my help and guidance. I have been a teacher and tutor for a few years. I taught in a high school English and Music. Right after I graduated High school I was asked to help struggling students and teach a bit when the teacher was gone. Also I have worked in Elementary schools I have taught lessons at least once a week. I have been in teaching methods classes and I have take Education psychology. I have also been able to in three months encourage students to improve grades that are at a 50% low to a 90-100% high.
I teach from the core of a person they have the inner agency to choose to succeed and they can succeed if they desire to be great they will be great. Also I believe in teaching through the nine learning intelligences as well as the six thinking hats. Also I teach by blooms taxonomy up to synthesis and evaluation. I am up to date and have read many books and taught in these styles.

I feel that the biggest change for good that any one of us can make is in the lives of the children we find around us. I love teaching. Teaching college students has been very rewarding. I encourage active participation in discussion and groups. Each class is started with a question and answer period about any nutrition issue they might have. Most assignments have an aspect of self discovery so that each student can learn something about their nutrition status. Late work is not allowed and attendance is not taken; rather random "reflection" responses are asked to reward those that attend and to ascertain their understanding of the concepts discussed. Each student can excel when the effort is made.

As a business major I learned alot about the importance of language and communication. I took classes in english, and writing. I was a tutor for over 100 students for 2 years in finance and taght a class twice a week on Microsoft Excel. In high school I volunteered at an elementary school to help children with ADD and behavioral issues for 3 trimesters. I was a staff member at Cedar Badge, a week long leadership training course for scouts, teaching leadership skills.
I like to have visuals. They are important no matter what age. i use powerpoint, pictures, think of stories, and try to get the students involved as much as they can. People either learn, by seeng, doing, or both, so it is good to teach using all of the learning tools.
