A Little Bit About Me...

I've taught children, teenagers, and adults. It is important to me that those listening understand and are able to comprehend what is being taught. I try to make the situation fun and entertaining, but focus on what needs to be learned. I feel that if a teacher has a personal relationship with a student, the student will excel more, and have an interest in the topic.
As a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, I served in Switzerland and Germany for 22 months speaking High German. I studied everyday, and excelled in my studies and speaking. For a few months, I had a German tutor, a German woman from Berlin that would help with my pronunciation. I believe in the Socratic Method. Through this tutoring method, the student is asked questions to help them develop understanding on their own. Through this discovery style, the students actually learn in ways that will be remembered most. I believe that any child, teenager, or adult can learn most effectively through their own discovery, with my help and guidance. I believe in having "ah-ha!" moments, and the feeling of relief and excitement when connections are made, and learning happens. That's what I want for my students.
My degree consists of two areas of emphases: English and the Humanities, with a minor in Dance. I've gained experience with teaching in an array of ways. Firstly, I'm a recent graduate from BYU-Idaho in Piano Performance earning my Bachelor of Musical Arts. Throughout my training as a professional pianist I studied piano pedagogy and now have a functioning piano studio of my own. In addition, I was a music tutor and teachers assistant helping my fellow students grasp music theory concepts. Furthermore, I worked as a youth counselor at a summer camp called Outdoor Youth Activities (OYA) where we specialized in working with young teens. Here I had a chance to guide and counsel with teens in large groups and also a one on one personal basis.
