'Retired' Biologist and Experienced Math Tutor

I have been teaching molecular biology to students and technicians in the laboratory for the past 12 years. In college I taught the human anatomy laboratory and a special research section to other undergraduates. I also tutored fellow students in College Algebra. I am currently tutoring students in math to prepare them for the GED.
I believe my job as a tutor is to find a way to help every student learn. I tell all my students if they don't understand the material, then I have to find another way to explain it. I believe that a solid education is something every child should have. All children learn in their own way. It is the responsibility of the teacher and parents to determine the way of learning that is most beneficial to the child. It is also the job of the teacher and parents to set their child up for success by helping them gain the knowledge they need. Children should feel they are in a safe environment as they learn. I am dedicated to helping students reach their potential and to teaching them the joy of learning.
Helping others learn has always been a joy of mine. I have a BS degree in Elementary Education. I also hold a current Professional Teaching License. I am certified to teach kindergarten through eighth grade and highly qualified for kindergarten through sixth grade. I also have the experience of being a classroom teacher for three years.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a graduate of the Air Force Academy and Harvard Business School, I know what it takes to achieve excellence in education. I have earned advanced degrees in Engineering and Business. My love of teaching and coaching brought me back to the Air Force Academy to coach and tutor college athletes in math, science, English, and French. I also have extensive writing and speaking experience and have helped many students with college essays and applications.
My teaching style adapts to each individual I work with. I believe that one of the most important things to helping anyone learn is to instill in them the confidence that they can be successful. I believe that there are lots of different ways to learn, and I like helping people figure out what works for them. If someone wants to be successful and is willing to put in the work, I will find a way to help them achieve their goals.

I have also worked at a preschool Kehillah Jewish Preschool with 4 and 5 year olds preparing them for kindergarten, which included phonics, reading, writing, number and letter recognition, pre-math skills such as measuring and sorting.
