Experienced and Proactive Educator

I believe that competence and confidence are BOTH important in learning. Students bring their own knowledge and learning styles to the process. It is the teachers job not only to adapt instructional style to best support the learner, but also to help the student understand his or her own learning style and needs.

Drama is one of my top subjects! I earned a BA in Theater and Dance from Trinity College and have been performing and studying drama since I was a kid.

I have been performing since I was a kid. I started taking singing lessons from a Julliard graduate when I was twelve and have taken classes and workshops with Broadway performers and other industry experts. I have studied acting, play writing, and directing. I earned a BA in Theater and Dance from Trinity College and studied with artists-in-residence at the La Mama Theatre in NYC.
My teaching style changes depending on the student. One style does not fit all. I like to get to know my students as people and thoroughly understand their learning styles, wants and need. Communication and patience are key.

Italian tutor for all!

every student is different; as far as languages are concerned i believe people benefit more from actually speaking and listening, instead of learning a whole bunch of grammatical rules. those will come in time and a lot more naturally once you are confident with the words and their meaning.
I have tutored many different kids and a few adults in english and italian, always with great success. i have also worked as a nanny and babysitter, which has trained me to be a very patient teacher and quickly understand students different ways of learning and comprehension. i enjoy helping others become more confident with a new language!

Drama is one of my top subjects! I have a theatrical training program for young performers and have worked with young people in all aspects of theatre for more than twenty years...Theatre is transformative and can be a great learning tool in other subjects!

I am a Speech and Theatre educator with a strong background in English. I have worked with young people over the past twenty years and have been privileged to see many of them benefit from the Speech, Theatre and English training they received in my programs or by tutoring. In this era of instant communication, many of my former students have reached out to me to let me know how meaningful the work was for them and how it motivated them in their lives and helped them to find their true callings. For this, I am profoundly grateful.
Committed, engaging, appropriately direct, friendly but professional, caring, insightful, compassionate, skilled, motivating. I use appropriate humor and candor to motivate. I do have a behavior policy of mutual respect which sets a protocol and from which all parties mutually benefit.

I enjoy teaching and have learned that the best way to teach is to listen. I have great patience and find it a challenge to find"the" way to teach a particular student. I learned much of this from my Father who taught for 40 years at college level.
In my job I have been teaching my clients for 30 years. While I hold a BA in American Labor History, I have a deep knowledge base of Central Asian, Near East and Asian history obtained from business experience. I believe that it is most important to create a learning environment that allows a student to feel successful every step of the way. Many years ago, as a Juvenile Probation Officer I discovered that there are three key ingredients to working with young people: trust, sensitivity and encouragement. Beyond the goal of mastering course materials, I would strive to instill in the student that I tutor, that he or she is worthy and capable. It’s very much a balancing act: A student should know that I am approachable, friendly and interested, but at the same time establishing and maintaining the proper boundaries between student and teacher.
My undergraduate degree in English and a Juris Doctor degree was a foundation for my career in writing, editing and research in the financial communications field. I have learned about the importance of clarity, detail and accuracy in writing. As an ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have always had a strong interest in Education. From my High School teenage years, I tutored Elementary and High School students in the summer that attended my church in my home country Barbados. I went on to pursue my Bachelors degree in Psychology, in which I earned Second Class Honors, so that I could have a deeper understanding of how individuals develop mentally. This advanced understanding of the distinct developmental stages allows me to better adapt my lesson plans to each unique individual that I tutor. While pursuing my masters degree in Industrial Psychology at Iona College, I home tutored 2 very different 5th Grade Elementary School girls from diverse backgrounds. I also worked as the Graduate Assistant of the Education Department at the College and gained invaluable knowledge from co-workers who are experienced teachers, lecturers and Superintendents from all over the ... read more
