I have a Master's of Education degree with endorsements in English as a Second Language and Bilingual Education, and have been teaching grades K-8 for seven years. Additionally, I have tutored and managed a Title I tutoring for my school district. I pride myself in working with my students, channeling their strengths, and helping them to use their strong suits in order to achieve success academically and socially.
I would describe my teaching style as very thorough. I find that students are able to succeed when the curriculum, especially one with which a student is experiencing difficulty, is taught in a way that reflects their learning style and interests.

Each student is unique. Therefore, I use a variety of teaching styles, strategies, methods and techniques depending on the individual's needs and abilities. A special needs student may need hands on lessons or visual learning activities. Someone else may be an audio learner. I analyze the situation, differentiate between teaching strategies and implement the most effective one. My success goes beyond the actual lessons or my experience. It's is due to the fact that I truly love teaching, thrive on the positive interactions and maintain high expectations for myself and the student. I am very flexible, patient and knowledgeable. I strive to meet the needs of the students in order for them to be successful and confident.

A Little Bit About Me...

When I am teaching I am very patient and try to organize the lesson or my assistance in steps. I'll have the child read the problem or question, ask what they know about it, see if they understand the question and proceed. The patient style helps me see what the student's strengths and weaknesses are so I know what they need to practice and focus on. If the child has multiple assignments or tasks I have them perform the more difficult ones first. Starting with the easy assignments may seem like it makes sense but I would prefer that the student have more energy for the tasks they'll have more difficulty with.
During my high school years I would volunteer to help children through various charities and church. When I attended college I became an Early Childhood Education major and volunteered in preschool and elementary schools. During my Student Teaching in Des Plaines I was in ... read more

When I traveled to Costa Rica the first time to earn my TEFL certification, I knew that teaching was my vocation. I love teaching, and I have learned from teaching students of all ages how to apply my skills to meet the needs of my students. The most important thing I've learned is that you have to find ways to entertain your students while teaching them at the same time. If you can do this along with truly believing in what you are teaching, you can undoubtedly help and motivate any student.
I began tutoring lower level Spanish students in high school for several years. Later in college, I volunteered for the America Reads Challenge Program and helped elementary-aged students improve their reading skills. Not long after graduating college, I moved to Costa Rica where I taught English for six months to learners between the ages of six and sixty years old. In addition to my tu ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As a holder of two Journalism degrees I have been through the extensive rigors of college and know what it takes to get assignments done properly and haned in on time. I feel that the experience of having just been in college would help benefit any college student seeking help in certain areas of their education. Having two journalism degrees has taught me the grammatical skills to write for numerous media outlets, while also being able to proofread and edit as well. Having worked for the Boys & Girls Club in Janesville, I would work with elementary and high school kids with their homework on a daily basis, covering every primary subject.

Individual student needs become very apparent very quickly, especially in the subjects of language arts and reading. The first important step is to assess a specific goal then to lay out a plan to reach that goal in order to make steady progress. Motivation is key, and that key is different for every learner. Energy and enthusiasm rank at the top of my list as important teaching attributes. If an instructor is not excited about the area of learning, how can the student be? An outstanding teacher is one who can make a difference in each and every of his/her students' lives, therefore their education. It is my personal goal to make a difference.

A Little Bit About Me...

Writing, critical thinking, and judicious analysis have always been my coveted academic activities. Thus, my BS in Media Studies, with concentrations in English and History, from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana embody my own training and refinement of these processes. Since then, I’ve applied these skills to teaching ACT prep classes. In addition, I’ve been tutoring students for ACT prep as well as working with kids (ages 6-18) at a writing and tutoring center in all subjects. In my youth, I tutored peers for four years in various topics. I was an official Writing Center tutor for two years and my peers’ unofficial writing tutor throughout college. I’ve always loved to help others with their studies and challenges that arise.
