I have successfully completed a Beacon tutor course in preparation for individual and group tutor sessions. I led a semester long Beacon tutoring supplement course in Organic Chemistry that supported 20 junior college students. I have effectively tutored/mentored a number of high school students in general education coursework, organizational skills, and in preparation for exit examinations. I have conducted community based math group sessions for junior high and high school students. Finally, I have supported 1st and 2nd grade elementary school students in math and reading comprehension. I personally create and provide worksheets and additional materials to support students' mastery of coursework. Students under my mentorship have achieved at least a 40% increase on grade reports and above average scores on examinations.

I have worked with a huge diversity of students and I find that students remember, relate, connect and understand metaphors, examples, and models best. So I tell my students stories about what they see in the world around them, relating lessons to the news, and showing examples that are so cool they cannot be forgotten! I love tutoring because my specialty is identifying the source of confusion a student might have in a given lesson and using my knowledge and experience to explain the science in a different way. All most every student I have tutored had the hidden, raw talent to succeed in school, but either lacked the desire or the vision to do so. I want students to see problems and concepts like how I do.
