A Little Bit About Me...

My experience with tutoring began in high school, when I started assisting elementary students with homework through one of my clubs. Throughout the two years I was involved, I regularly helped 6 students, along with 6 students that I met with irregularly. I have experience tutoring children with behavioral issues, learning disabilities (dyslexia, ADHD, ADD), as well as students on the Autism Spectrum. I'm willing to assist in almost any subject, including elementary school Spanish, up to French 2, and ACT/SAT prep (my scores are available upon request). I'm currently a student at Western Michigan University's College of Education and Human Development, from which I'm expected to graduate with honors in 2019, my transcript is available upon request.

I believe that teaching styles need to be flexible to the student. I have worked with a very wide variety of students, from the severely limited autistic youth to the highly gifted medical student. While approach and focus might vary for the individual or subject matter the essence remains the same. I try to envision at least 3 different ways of approaching a problem, I discuss material but let the students ask questions which I then tailor my explanations toward. Everyone sees a problem slightly differently and if you allow yourself an open mind and creative thinking often you can help them break through a difficult problem because you are able to see it their way.

My love for teaching goes as far back as my high school years. Specifically, in 2004, when I graduated from high school, I decided to take a gap year before enrolling in college. During that time, I worked as a teacher’s assistant in a first grade class. That experience was both enjoyable and humbling for me because aside from performing my assigned duties to enhance teaching and learning, I served as a mentor to the young children. The realization that they looked up to me gave me a renewed sense of work ethic, challenging me to work hard and give off my very best.
