My comments on tutoring Continuing Education : I am currently helping a student apply to PhD programs in English literature.

I am currently a tutor and contract educator in the Richmond area. I have been an instructor at Rice University, and I have been a substitute teacher for the Toms River (NJ) school system. I have undergraduate degrees in history and journalism as well as graduate degrees in history. I have also worked in the public history field as a museum interpreter and educator. I have had years to hone both my oral and written communication skills, from my first fledging writing and public speaking efforts as a student to my more recent work as a teacher and scholar. I have a BS in social science from Longwood University and a Master's of Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University. For just over a decade I have been involved in some form of peer education or mentoring. As a senior in high school, I tutored students in mathematics and science. As an ACS Certified Chemist, I have been exposed to upper level mathematics, chemistry and physics, but am still required to use writings skills in preparing various reports and papers. The opportunity to be a Teaching Assistant in upper-level chemistry and mathematics was rewarding and reinforcing at the same time.
