Algebra I is one of my top subjects!

I love to teach and coach and think it is important to understand that everyone learns and grasps concepts in different ways. I do not have a specific teaching style other than positive because each child requires their own approach.
I have over 15 semesters of college courses most in the sciences. I graduated in December 2014 from Iowa State University with a Civil Engineering degree- 3.5 GPA honor student. Before Iowa State I went to the University of Iowa for two years to play basketball. A Little Bit About Me...

I understand that everyone learns differently. I generally prefer a more hands on approach. I attended a Montessori middle school and found it most effective. However, the goal is find what works best for the student.
I graduated 10th in a high school class of 900. I have a BA in Dance and am currently taking pre physical therapy course work. I teach and train dancers, both in class and one on one. I also teach yoga. When I teach I also am teaching the history of the form, vocabulary, and the anatomy behind it.

I believe that every person is able to learn, if they want to. You can't make someone learn if they have no interest in it. I try to establish a reason for learning with the student. My first child I tutored is a perfect example. This boy was 14 years old. He really enjoyed carpentry. He hated math because he didn't realize that it would help him with what he loved. With the relation of math to his carpentry he was able to come from a low "D" to a low "B". It worked becasue he was able to mentally visualize and apply it to his carpentry. I feel the other key to his success is that we set the realistic goal of one letter grade of improvement. The extra letter was the icing on the cake.

I had several regular students and additional students during peak times like finals week and AP season.
