I am now in my second year as a Special Education Teacher at a private school in DC that specializes in working with children who have Learning and Emotional Disabilities. A Little Bit About Me...

I am a dedicated professional who is passionate about helping students achieve academic success. This past year, I spent time as an SES Lead Tutor after school and in-home and tutored (Reading - phonics based - and Math) many children in grades K through 7th that held IEPs. I believe that each child learns at their own Pace and if they are tested, the gaps in their education will appear. Once these gaps are addressed, they can move forward with their peers. You must find out what works for each student and use that method to make learning fun. I believe in step-by-step hands on with a lot of practice. I would love to continue to have a positive impact on all students when it comes to Math and share with them the love that I have.
I started out as a Computer Instructor and enjoyed teaching computer classes but something was missing. I saw that my children was not getting the educ ... read more

My comments on tutoring Algebra : I have completed Algebra I in high school and college. I received an extremely good grade in this class at both levels. I am very confident in my abilities to tutor this subject.

What I try to do first is get the student to work out the problem, and as they are doing that I will work the problem as well. We will go over our answers together so I have a chance to explain the problem to the student. I believe that repitition and practice makes perfect as long as you have someone to explain it along the way. I will thoroughly explain the problem to the student if they don't understand it. By the end I would hope that the student could then explain how to do the problem to me.

I have over five years tutoring asvab students. I can help you with asvab math formulas and difficult problems. The best way to improve your score is to get a tutor, take a lot of tests and give yourself enough time to study and learn different techniques. I can help you developed your best learning style so you can do well in the asvab. Thank you.
The ASVAB AR is made up of only about 15 major types of problems. 90% require you to know the formula to solve the problem. For example a PERCENTAGE PROBLEM Is usually solved using this formula: % / 100 = Part / Whole. You can plug- in the values and solve for the missing "x". I can give you ALL of the formulas you will need on the Arithmetic Knowledge Section. We also review techniques for excelling on the PC, MK and WK sections of the ASVAB.

Elementary, Middle, High School and College Tutor

I have tutored and mentored students for more than five years in Algebra I & II, Trigonometry, Physics, Chemistry, English and ESL. I have a degree in Psychology and a certificate in TEFL. I believe tutoring is a really helpful and useful addition to class and studying by oneself because it is reviewing class material once again and it is a way for students to be accountable to yet another person who knows the answers to their questions and can help them work to that answer as well.
I usually start with a diagnostic test to concentrate on weaker areas then come up with a weekly plan focusing on those areas. After a lesson, I usually give worksheets and sometimes online exercises, depending on the subject, and use videos and games if applicable.

I view tutoring as a way to help others while improving my interpersonal skills. I value all the skills I gain from tutoring because they will be assets when I become a physician. Guided by experiences in my life and lessons I’ve learned through teaching, I’ve come to understand that all children learn differently. My goal is to first determine where the students need help, based on their learning style, and then focus my knowledge and experience to help them using proven teaching techniques and my own teaching methods. My philosophy of education is that I believe that teachers should provide an opportunity to facilitate the academic, social, and individual growth of students. We should incorporate cooperative learning, which includes literacy, math and science manipulatives and writing to help children to work cooperatively and explore their various talents.
Teaching is my passion and I believe that by teaching I can instill firm educational values in children and help develop within them a desire to learn and grow, which will lead to academic pride and s ... read more

My teaching style varies according to the individuals. I am aware that people learn differently. I am patient and willing to break down a subject for clear understanding. After teaching, I very interested in the recipient teaching the subject back to me for a asurrance of understanding.
