My comments on tutoring Elementary Phonics : I have taught Kindergarten, 2nd Grade, 3rd Grade, and 5th Grade. I am certified K-6th grade. I also taught advanced and Intermediate math and language arts in a GED/HiSet program. I currently teach ESOL/CIVICS for an Adult School.

My teaching philosophy starts out with essentialism which believes in a strong core curriculum and high academic standards. I believe it is important to have a strong foundation on which to build upon. After ensuring a strong foundation I tend to lean more towards progressivism. I believe students should be taught what is relevant today while becoming more independent learners, by utilizing problem solving skills and critical thinking. I graduated from The University of Alabama with a BS in early childhood education. I taught first grade for four years, followed by second grade for four years as well. I have been a substitute teacher for the last six years. I am a certified Orton-Gillingham reading tutor and have great success helping students improve their fluency and comprehension.
