My style is dependent on the student. While the end result is having a student understand the material, the way of achieving this varies with each person. Some students require a lot of hand holding while some require a more hands off approach. To achieve understanding I will cater to the students needs. I have tutored high school students who are college bound during my undergraduate years at William Paterson University of New Jersey. I also tutored my fellow undergraduates. I then pursued a doctorate and was active in many peer study groups where were tutored each other in neuroscience and organic chemistry. As I entered college, I quickly was labeled a tutor by my friends. They would find me before exams so I could give them a crash course on what they needed to know before an exam. In tutoring any of the traditional subjects (Latin, Greek, formal/informal logic, rhetoric, critical thinking), I emphasize the objectives common to them all: (1) acquisition of context-specific vocabulary, (2) a feel for the flexibility and polysemy of a given word's lexical-semantic meaning, (3) a comprehension of the text's thematic, stylistic, and evaluative undertones and progression. My teaching style depends on the student. I am comfortable with trying different study methods in order to figure out why my student is having trouble with a particular subject. I have a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. I love being able to help students feel comfortable with the material they are studying.
