A Little Bit About Me...

As a volunteer with the Salvation Army I have spent many years volunteering with children, teaching Sunday School and Band. When I graduated from Norwich University, the oldest private military school in the nation with a BA in History, and spent two summers working at summer camps as a Swim instructor and lifeguard, I added to my knowledge and experience of teaching and tutoring. I have spent the last 5 years tutoring in History and music, and have general understanding of Science. As a musician I have focused mainly in Brass and vocal music and specialize in Trombone, but am proficient in Trumpet/Cornet, Baritone/Euphonium and Eb Tuba.

All children are students; they can learn. The question is how best do they learn? I have used many differing styles from rote memorization through self-paced self-education. I encourage students to see the wonder and "mystery" (there really isn't any mystery) of Math, regardless of the level, in the real world. To that aid, I try to present real world problems at levels the student can understand. For lower level students, I investigate with them the development of the linear equations involved in setting up a relationship between two factors. A higher level student would solve multiple linear equations. A height vs. time linear relationship then can become quadratic, thus involving sports as an application.

But it is a good challenge! A Little Bit About Me...

I am a professional singer, actress and dancer who has taught throughout my 15 year career. I truly love teaching, especially in a one-on-one or very small group setting. I began teaching in fifth grade when my science teacher conceded that I knew more about sharks than he did, so when we got to that lesson, I took over for two days. In tenth grade, I had an internship at my high school teaching ninth grade Global Studies. When I graduated college, I began substitute teaching while I wrote my first few novels. I graduated high school in 2000 with a local diploma and then went on to college at Utica School of Commerce. I graduated in 2002 with an Associated Degree as an Administrative Specialist. I have worked at a few different jobs and just went back to college again at Utica School of Commerce and got my certificate degree as a Medical Office Assistant.
