I have tutored students in math and science (mainly math) for over 13 years. I have helped students in various levels of mathematics - basic math, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and pre-calculus. After working with me on a consistent basis (2/3 days/week) many of the students have received honors in their math courses, including "Most Improved" and "Highest Average". I am also proud to say that a couple of students have actually decided to pursue careers that require a good understanding of math - i.e. engineering, architecture.
I enjoy working with students of all ages, although most of my experience has been with middle school age and older. As a mother of two young children, I want to see all children exceed. Children learn through positive reinforcement and by slowly building confidence, as his or her work improves. Childen should not be made to feel inferior, but need approriate teachings to fit his or her personalities. All it takes is a little confidence to start off with, keep encouraging and praising, and this can be achieved when the tutor works with the child based on his individual strength to learn. Admittedly, I have no direct (structured) teaching experience. However, I have nearly five years of experience in the journalism field, and during that time I've mentored a number of fledgling college and high school journalists. And while journalism and political science are my two specialties -- given that I have degrees in both -- I also have a fair amount of expertise in the tangential fields of English and History.
I do not have a particular teaching style because I don't believe that a single method works for everyone. Therefore, I operate from an Occam's Razor perspective -- whatever is the simplest solution is the best. I worked in accounting for one year as accounts receivable manager for one of the fastest growing companies in Mississippi. I also performed all accounting tasks for my own business for 3 years. I then went back to school in 2008 and finished my accounting degree at Delta State University in Cleveland Mississippi. I have tutored students in accounting and computer courses for the last year and even though I have moved to Birmingham I am still contacted by students in Mississippi through word of mouth.

Education has always been a very important part of my life. After earning my BS in Accounting I have continued my education in pursuit of my CPA. During my college career, I tutored student athletes in accounting, finance, and mathematics.
I truly enjoy teaching and working with children. Every individual learns differently and I feel the key to teaching children is determining that learning style.
