As a recent college graduate, I was motivated to study Physics because I find the fundamental nature of the physical world fascinating. In addition to my B.S. in Physics, I also minored in Religious Studies and this course of study has enabled me to understand and communicate with people from a variety of different backgrounds. When I wasn’t in class I spent nearly 3 years doing particle physics research for CERN’s Large Hadron Collider, which I would work at in Geneva Switzerland during the summer. Relaxed but demanding. I try to teach at the level of the class and try to tutor on a one-to-one basis at the students ability. Try to put myself in students perspective. Try to feel out the students perception of Mathematics and then try and tailor the presented material on that basis. Many students take Math because it is required and not worth putting any extra thought other than passing the course. I teach by example and experience as to how the concepts of Math apply to their everyday lives. Math is also a great way of training the mind to logically understand the approach needed to problem solving in all areas of life.

My teaching style varies depending on the student. Perhaps my biggest asset is empathy as I can easily tell when a student (or group) gets it. Thus, I do not waste time telling students what they already know, and I can back up and explain in more detail when necessary. After showing that I was very capable in the classroom and could quickly develop a strong rapport with coworkers and students, I was hired for the year when another teacher left unexpectedly. I went to school for the next year at the University of Kentucky, did not finish my degree, but earned enough credits to be hired by to teach in their Alternative School. I taught and was a leader and innovator at Cropper Alternative School for the next five years, until I decided to move to this part of the country after a recent divorce.
