I bring a lot of energy to the classroom and ensure that I am over-prepared for each lesson. I enjoy involving every student in a classroom setting and encourage an active, open learning environment. I am a retired Boulder valley teacher and I have taught from the preschool to college level for over 20 years. Most recently, I worked as an ESL and reading teacher. My training was modeled after reading recovery and involved one year of supervised teaching one-on-one with children who were struggling readers. The goal of this training is to help children work with their strengths as readers, rather than focusing on their weaknesses. Children learn the strategies that they need in order to be successful, independent readers. The work I do with them is very focused and begins with a thorough diagnostic assessment of their reading abilities. I have six years of experience working one-on-one with children to improve their reading. I also have extensive experience teaching and writing with both native English speakers and second language learners from the elementary to college level.

I am a fun, enthusiastic, caring, supportive, yet, particular teacher. My students learn whether they want to or not... I include a lot of games and activities which are fun for everyone, including myself! I have to have fun, because if I'm not, I know my students aren't having any fun. I care very much for people, therefore, wanting what is best for my students and for them to see the importance of learning another language.
