I am a very fun and energetic person, therefore, my teaching style reflects my personality. I usually use hands on activities to keep the students engaged and allow them to be responsible for their own learning. I also find that this helps them have a better understanding of the subject area and since many people do not like English class very much, my approach helps them have a new respect for the subject. Of course, I do adapt my teaching style to work with each individual student as I and the student see necessary. I believe that the students and I should have a mutual respect for one another. Born in a family with American Sign Language as a primary language. I am fluent in ASL including Total Communication. I have grown to love the language and understand the culture that comes with it. Teachers appointed me as their instructors for beginning ASL while I was in high school. Assisted teachers in tutoring the language. I was invited to speak at Youth Character Symposium at Webster University about my identity as a deaf person, educating others about the Deaf culture as well as our language.
