Successful Learning Begins With A Creative Mind

I went to college at Westminster College for Math then changed my major to Fine Arts. I am proficient in Math up to Calculus 2 and i can teach Art very well. I have tutoring experience through high school and i work well with high school students. I can tutor from my home or i can travel. My teaching style is not memorization but rather practice. The best method that I found for teaching math based subjects is step by step work throughs for each problem. By taking the time to step through each math problem, the student learns the theory (Algebra, geometry, etc) as well as the solution. Just solving the problem doesn't teach them as much as understanding HOW to get the solution

I enjoy working with children and young adults. I attempt to find the methods/means by which the student learns best. My initial objective is to ascertain the student’s learning goals. Then I familiarize myself with the material with which the student is currently working, so as to develop a successful learning approach. This is an ongoing process as the student progresses. I prefer to begin by having the student describe the current subject matter to the best of his/her abilities to determine a starting point. I have found that having the student talk through the subject matter can be useful in determining his/her strengths and level of understanding. I like to have the student work through some problems they have not been assigned from their book/notes so that they are able to practice and work through some other problems before attempting any assignments. I have also found that it is useful to go over any previous quizzes or tests related to the current subject matter as difficulties are sometimes related to previous work because with these subjects the work tends to build upon itself.

As an undergraduate at Slippery Rock University, I was approached by my adviser and chair-person in Physics to tutor their physics classes. I accepted their offer and within the two years of tutoring physics I enjoyed helping fellow students learn and understand the concepts of physics. A Little Bit About Me...

The most challenging aspect of teaching comes from the many different styles in which students acquire information. While some students benefit more from a hands-on approach, others are better served by visualizations/illustrations, while still others learn best by repetition of material.
