As a tutor, I find that it is important to present the material to the students in a way that they can relate to. My job as an educator is to teach them how to learn it and make them want to learn it. I personally do not believe that negative reinforcement is beneficial. Positive responses to students are extremely valuable, even if they may occasionally give the wrong answer. This will give them the motivation to do well. Although I have not formally been in the classroom since 1998, I regularly tutor my own children. While in college at MTSU, I was a substitute teacher in Rutherford County for 3 years, mainly substituting at Central Middle School. I also did various volunteer tutoring in the Elementary schools as class credit toward my degree. Due to having my oldest child my senior year of college, I was forced into the general workforce due to finances, and do not have any formal teaching experience outside of substituting. I strongly believe hands on teaching and visual aids best help a students to understand what they are doing.
