through my teaching career I have had numerous workshops and professional Development in all areas in education. I also try to make my students aware of their potiential and guide them in processing information by first understanding the context in which it is used. Young people learn through different ways and means. I try to discern the best method to instruct any particular student with whom I am tutoring at the time. I like to give examples of problems, and "problem solve" with the student through illustrative examples on paper or on the board. I encourage questions and feedback to ensure that the young person is indeed learning "how" to solve a problem, not simply to "get" a solution. A student's practical demonstration of problem solving is the best gauge to determine if that student is indeed learning or not. I would say that it is a little more toward laid back. Being over 6" tall, stocky, pushing hard, being an ogre, hard-nosed, that isn't going to work for me. People have a tendency to be a bit intimidated and fearful because of my size. I will use it to my advantage if it is necessary, or becomes necessary, but I've found being a little more quiet, reserved and coaxing the student to initiate the discussion is a little better. I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education, Magna Cum Laude, from Western Michigan University, majoring in History and minoring in Political Science. In addition, I have earned twenty-seven credit hours in English composition and writing courses.
