I am a highly-experienced speaker and tutor of German with 4.5 years of tutoring experience. As a teenager, I attended the annual Statewide German Competition in San Antonio, TX, competing in various fields such as sight-reading, writing, comprehension, and conversation. I scored in the 90th percentile on the National Exam for three consecutive years; in 2011, I received the highest score in the state of Texas. In 2010, I was able to travel to Schwaebisch Hall, Germany, for a six-month study abroad program, where I lived with a German family and attended school to achieve an immersive experience. In 2001, I graduated from IUP with a degree in elementary education. I substitute taught around the South Hills of Pittsburgh for a year, then moved to Virginia, where I taught fifth grade for four years. The first three years were in a public school and the fourth in a private school. I taught all subject areas and skill level abilities.
I would describe my teaching style as hands on and according to multiple learning styles. I understand that students learn best when they have the option of working with material objects. I also realize that students all learn in different ways and therefore I try to teach to each student's learning style.
