My comments on tutoring Sociology : I know many basic theories in sociology due to my B.A. in Anthropology with a concentration in cultural anthropology.

I am someone who understands that not all children learn effectively the same way. I am someone who will sit down with my student and ask them questions regarding how they learn and how they do not learn. Sometimes a student will not know how they learn effectively but they will know what does not work for them. From there I try to tailor a program to suit that student. As a tutor you are able to have that one on one time and you can design your instructions for a specific student therefore making your teaching more effective.
While pursuing a double degree from the University at Buffalo and working part-time, I worked in peer tutoring groups for Latin and writing. During my junior year of undergraduate work, I was contacted by a professor and asked to become an English tutor intern for my fellow students and visiting exchange students from Aichi, Japan. I was told that this hands-on tutoring would also coincide with an upper level English class, a class in which permission of its instructor, the English department and recommendations from other professors were all required.
