I utilize elements of each of the five teaching styles; however, I prefer the I Do, We Do, You Do style of learning. I firmly believe in providing clear instruction and demonstration of each concept. Then, the student and I work together to master a concept. After that, I provide the student an opportunity to practice and demonstrate his/her mastery of the material in a variety of situations. If the student still needs help, I reteach. I believe in positive reinforcement. Every student can succeed. No one succeeds if he/she feels unimportant or unsuccessful. Attitude is as essential to success as a mastery of content.

I can teach with or without a textbook. My great advantage in privately tutoring for 10 years is in my being forced to work with all levels of mathematics; that is, while most teachers teach one or two math subjects only, I have had to brush up on everything from elementary algebra to calculus year, after year, after year. I know how to "read" students to figure out what they know, what they don't, and the course of action we need to take to get them up to speed FAST. My philosophy is in blending the Socratic Method and demonstration to give students the actual language of mathematics.
