During high school, my teacher requested that I help others in my class and I realized how much I loved helping others understand how accounting works. Also in helping my children with their school work, I have learned that each child is different and learns in different ways. I would describe my style of teaching as finding out how a particular student learns best and work form that foundation. Some learn better by seeing an example and then working it out on their own with someone to consult if they get stuck. Other learn better with what they hear and others what they read. It is better to see how each person learns best and teach from that angle. Also, patience is the greatest teaching aid available to any teacher or student.
I earned both of my degrees while working and caring for very young children. I feel this was possible because of my time management skills and dete ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

After High School, I taught Sunday School at the small church I attended. I was co-teacher with an older gentleman, and the students were 12-15 years old. When my wife and I lived in Seymour (2002-2004), we often helped our nephews with their math homework or class Science projects. I loved explaining the basics, the steps required as we conducted the experiments and documented results in a logical, orderly progression of events. Our oldest nephew struggled with Algebra and geometric reasoning. When in Seymour, I could teach him one-on-one, and especially enjoyed using sketches to drive home geometrical concepts.
1) I like to help the student define our goal: "What is it we are trying to achieve?" 2) "How do we get there?" Here I am open to suggestions from the student as to how we achieve that goal. This gives me clues to his/her learning style. 3) I try to help the student ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I worked in accounting for one year as accounts receivable manager for one of the fastest growing companies in Mississippi. I also performed all accounting tasks for my own business for 3 years. I then went back to school in 2008 and finished my accounting degree at Delta State University in Cleveland Mississippi. I have tutored students in accounting and computer courses for the last year and even though I have moved to Birmingham I am still contacted by students in Mississippi through word of mouth.
I break down subjects to the most basic level and build from there. This is the way all of my football coaches did things each year, they taught football stance at the beginning of August no matter the player's experience. Some students find this condescending but it usually progresses fast enough to reach their skill level without offending. I have always found that starting at the ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy working with all students. I believe the greatest experience is learning from the students. All children are unique and have different views of recieving what is being taught. I have a driven determination in providing my best to each student. I may not reach all as desired but, it is my goal to provide my best.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have recently earned a Bachelor's Degree in Legal Studies and graduated Summa Cum Laude, which is the highest of academic honors. In order to obtain my degree, I was required to take several courses in a very broad area of study including writing, literature, reading, mathematics, history, and sciences. I have an extensive background in English courses, including knowledge of several research and writing styles. My tutoring experience mainly includes English and writing work, but I also have experience with tutoring some math classes and history.
In general, I simply love working with children. I find great happiness in knowing that I personally helped a child succeed academically. As the oldest of four children, I have always been a leader amongst my siblings and always found myself helping them academically as they grew older. In tutoring, I consider myself to be very patient a ... read more

As a graduate student, I tutored minority engineering students in chemistry, physics, and math at California State University in Northridge, CA. I also privately tutored students at the same time. As a senior auditor and a senior project manager, I mentored and trained staff in accounting, IT, and project management methods and standards.
I enjoy teaching and have been successful in encouraging students to learn. One student I had was failing chemistry and with my help she obtained an A. By being patient and providing clear and detailed explanations and examples, I can effectively help a student meet their potential.
