A Little Bit About Me...

As a mother of two, I understand not only the importance of learning to read but the process involved. Each child has a different learning style and speed, and as a tutor it is important to be agile - teaching to individual needs. I believe in allowing children to learn through discovery, while providing guidance and correction as needed. There is opportunity in the written word, and this is something every child should and can experience.
As a Notre Dame graduate, I have always valued education. Having graduated with two degrees in computer science and psychology, I entered the workforce immediately following college and recently took a leave of absence to spend some time with my children. I have a variety of teaching experience. I began teaching as a secondary Language Arts instructor with focus on reading skills, reading comprehension, interpretation of literature, and writing. I have taught students the writing process, research skills, and all areas of proofreading, editing, and revising. I have also been a tutor for homebound students at grade levels 1-12 as well as taught students in Adult Basic Education classes. I have also taught mathematics from grades 1-10 (includes algebra). I am able to teach math at levels 1-10 and all areas of Language Arts , reading, and study skills. A Little Bit About Me...

Attending a private liberal arts college taught me to push myself to be the very best I could be. I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Classics with an emphasis on Greek, and a minor in English. I tutored for a January term Beginning Greek class, as well as whenever students stopped in the office and needed help with Greek or Latin. I have proficient language and mnemonic skills, since I studied the roots of language for 7 semesters. I enjoy proofreading and editing, and consider myself to be a "word nerd."
I worked as a camp counselor for 3 summers, and understand that everyone has different learning styles.
