I have been a substitute teacher in Long Beach, Santa Barbara, Glendale, and Palm Springs. I have had experience as a long term substitute in Senior English for a year at Palm Springs High School, also in Palm Springs, I did six months as a Special Education teacher at Cree Middle School. Working with children is my passion ,and ensuring their success is my goal.I consider my teaching style to be a demonstrator in which I put an emphasis on demonstration and modeling. Where I guide the student to develop and apply the skills that were demonstrated. I feel that encouraging student participation while adapting their unique learning style will help the student take responsibility for learning what they need help on. A student should be pushed to excel but it is also about teaching the student discipline, and respecting others. Lastly, tutoring is about having fun, creating a exciting experience to the student and creating a memorable teaching environment that ensure success for the student.
I have the passion required to help students reach their full academic potential. Teaching is about not only motivating them to learn but to teach them how to learn. My B.S in Acco ... read more

I started teaching tennis to juniors at the age of 16. I enjoyed that very much. For close to 10 years I taught at a country club in Connecticut. During my time there I did not focus on winning, but our record went from 0-7 to 7-0. I attribute this to the power of positive teaching. After I completed Loyola University MD, I went into B2B Corporate sales, where I was successful, but my passion remained with teaching. Recently I was a PE Coach at a school, and I started an after school program for tennis and golf for the children.
My teaching style is modeled after the Princeton Method, which is the way that I was taught to teach tennis. The Princeton method focuses on the positive. So instead of saying "don't skip the hesitation for a period mark", I would say "remember to hesitate in between sentences".

In order to move forward in an academic subject, let’s first see where the student is in their understanding of the subject. Perhaps the student's mind is filled with a patch-work of facts and concepts that, together, simply do not make sense. In such a case, the leap from basic memorization to higher-level thinking such as analysis and problem solving will be difficult. But rather than bore the student with things too basic, let's apply what they already know to the unknown. Like any explorer, it becomes fun & exciting to explore the subject; to use one's imagination and creativity to solve surprising problems; to build confidence and interest. Once things click, I’m happily out of a job!

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that all students can achieve academic success, even in their least favorite subjects. However, everyone learns in different ways with sundry motivations. Many students require some one on one time with a qualified teacher, who will both identify the student’s learning style and adapt their teaching style accordingly. I also believe that a student’s confidence in their abilities will play into their success. A skilled teacher will tailor lessons and feedback to build on skills a student does have, instilling confidence and encouraging the learner to meet the challenge of complex topics.
With over 17 years of teaching experience, I realize the impact that one on one tutoring can have on a student. A Little Bit About Me...

It truly depends on the student and the subject. I try to adapt my teaching style to what the student needs. If one approach is not working, then we can work together to find an approach that does. I believe that it is important for the student to be able to relate to the teacher and it is the teachers job to create that connection.
Over the past 15 years I have had variety of different teaching experiences. I taught literature as a TA at UC Santa Barbara while studying for my Masters. I have tutored K-12 students in both Math and English. While studying for my undergraduate I assited in running a homeless shelter where I taught many of the children reading, writing, and math. I have a passion for teaching and am a mother myself and understand the true value of educating our youth.
