Helping young children learn to read has been the most rewarding thing I have done. It is a joy to watch them catch on to new learning. I like working 1:1 or in small groups. It is important build on a student's strengths, linking to what they know, and tying instruction to his or her interests. Recently I retired from teaching Title I classes. Much of my work has been helping lower elementary students improve their reading skills, often in a 1:1 setting. Besides working with young students, I have worked as high as 8th grade. Usually I have assisted with reading, but I have also helped with math, too.

I believe that the use of the modalities in teaching are quite beneficial and aid in smooth instruction. Visual, hearing and hands-on activities keep the student occupied and on-task. Each student learns in different ways and adapting all into a lesson keeps an engaged mind. Throughout the past 25 years, I have developed a deep love for learning and helping others. Defining strengths and weakness can allow for appropriately allocation of time to promote more efficient studying. During my sophomore year in high school I decided to begin tutoring ESL students. I found the ability to help others succeed very rewarding, and began tutoring fellow classmates in courses including but not limited to English, math, biology, and chemistry. These sometimes difficult subject always made sense to me and I enjoyed watching as the students I tutored were successful. I have in that time earned a BS in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from Florida State University.
