A Little Bit About Me...

I have worked with children of all ages in different environments and capacities for the past 20 years. It all started at the YMCA Afterschool and Summer Programs which gave me my first satisfactory feeling for being around young people. That led to substitute teaching and to 6 years in the classroom with 6th graders. For 1 year I taught English as a Foreign Language in Slovenia and Germany. Finally, I yearned for more one on one experience which resulted in being a Independent Study teacher for the past 5 years. My teaching style would be that of Guided Discovery. This is a highly interactive style which leads the student to uncover the answer themselves as opposed to the teacher simply reciting the answer to them. Guided Discovery requires the student to learn by doing therefore developing necessary problem solving and deductive skills that will make them better learners and thinkers both now and in the future. I implement this style by asking leading questions, giving examples, making analagies and asking the student what they think or ask them to explain how they came upon a certain conclusion.
