I am a strong believer that children all learn differently. I consider myself a visual learner, but try to teach to cater all different learning styles. I believe children learn best when able to relate to the material in some way. I try my best to discover the individual child's learning style and personal interests early on and then adjust my approach accordingly. It is then that the student becomes confident in learning, which promotes success. I specialized in poetry studying under one of the top T.S. Eliot scholars. As a literature major we studied a wide range of topics from early english to post colonial literature. This has given me a great appreciation of the english language. I would have to say that my teaching style is flexibility. I believe that it is necessary to gauge your students as a group and individually before deciding on which teaching methods would be most effective. I believe that naturalistic teaching is important. I also believe in a form of discrete trial training. It takes some of the basics from Discrete Trial and adapts them to fit the needs of the students that are struggling with certain subjects. Research has proven that all students learn differently and lessons cannot be taught primarily through auditory learning. A teacher especially one in the younger grades must engage in auditory, visual, tactile, kinestics and other learning methods.
