A Little Bit About Me...

I actually believe that having the ability to teach is a gift, and that Learning occurs from a variety of experiences and explorations. I generally use a teacher-centered approach to teaching; however, there are other times that I prefer to use a learner-centered approach as to meet the needs of my students and their learning styles. I often use a variety of teaching methods such as: group learning, peer review, role modeling, visual aids/hands-on, and mapping.
I have had the opportunity to serve students of many ages, academic levels, and backgrounds. Over the past four years I’ve enjoyed teaching in the Petal School District on the high school level. I taught and tutored students within the general education setting, as well as within the special education classroom. I believe that all children should learn no matter what their ability or disability may be. There should be passionate teachers in the field to be able to take on the responsibility of helping children reach their full potential. As an educator, I nurture my students and provide an emotionally, stable atmosphere while maintaining high expectations for all. My goal is to instill the love and passion of learning in every student that I teach. I do not want to touch one life; I want to touch the life of every child that walks through my classroom door.
I graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi where I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Deaf Education. I loved working with the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, but it was extremely hard finding a job doing that in my area.
