My name is Kary Heath. I graduated valedictorian from Luther High School in the spring of 2014. I am in my second semester at the University of Oklahoma and currently have 38 hours of college credit. I am currently maintaining a 4.0. I am an education major. I chose to pursue education because a large portion of my immediate family is teachers, including my parents and several of my aunts, uncles and grandparents. I graduated with an ACT score of 34, which awarded me the State Regents' Scholarship. I was also a National Merit Qualifier with a PSAT score of 204 in 2013. I generally try to remain as friendly as possible with the tutee so that he/she can relax and learn in a comfortable environment. I work on a first-name basis and try to make sure that the student is LEARNING, rather than merely finishing his/her homework. I teach using a Platonic method, asking prodding questions and getting the tutee to figure out the material him/herself. Occasionally, I have to teach in a more stern and disciplined manner b/c the student is distracted or doesn't feel like doing the work. In these cases, I remain disciplined to emphasize how important learning the material is but do not speak or act harshly.

As a graduate of the University of Oklahoma, I began my teaching career in mathematics at the junior high school level. I taught Algebra I to eighth graders. While teaching, I returned to school and received my M.Ed as a Reading Specialist. After working in that area for a few years, I became an inner city high school principal. I remained in that capacity for approximately twenty years. I was searching for a new challenge and joined the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education to administer an AmeriCorp grant called Smart Start for Brain Gain 2010.
