I have always loved to teach, and loved to travel and meet new people. This led to traveling for a summer during college to Mexico City, living with a Spanish-speaking family. I also spent twelve weeks in West Africa teaching ESL and speaking French before my senior year at OBU. I generally try to remain as friendly as possible with the tutee so that he/she can relax and learn in a comfortable environment. I work on a first-name basis and try to make sure that the student is LEARNING, rather than merely finishing his/her homework. I teach using a Platonic method, asking prodding questions and getting the tutee to figure out the material him/herself. Occasionally, I have to teach in a more stern and disciplined manner b/c the student is distracted or doesn't feel like doing the work. As a graduate of the University of Oklahoma, I began my teaching career in mathematics at the junior high school level. I taught Algebra I to eighth graders. While teaching, I returned to school and received my M.Ed as a Reading Specialist. After working in that area for a few years, I became an inner city high school principal.
