I live to create a love of English!

I have not tutored as an actual job ever, though I have done many other things that would be considered tutoring. I help my 12 year old nephew with his homework and have done so for about a year. I taught Sunday School at church for two years. My friends and other students have always come to me for help with essays and other English related assignments. Whether it be general proofreading, paragraph writing, paragraph flow, etc, that is the type of help I gave. I also have several Korean friends at college who are learning English as their second language, and one Finnish friend who learned English as her fifth language. I explain the basics to them, and help them learn English. I've learned that I do well in this field, and would like to continue with a paying job.

Writing is one of my top subjects!

A lifelong lover of reading, writing, and language in general, I supported myself through college by tutoring other students in Spanish and helping them edit/write their papers. Since then, I have tutored students between grades 6 and 12 in English related subjects, including spelling, vocabulary, and general writing. The past four months, I lived in San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua, where I spent two days a week tutoring local students in English as a second language, in addition to generally improving my Spanish skills.
My teaching style is extremely fluid. I've found that adapting classes to the unique needs and interests of each individual student is the best way to making a lasting impact on their educational growth.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have been teaching guitar lessons for a year now. I have just graduated from Colorado State University Pueblo with my Bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts. In my education at CSU I have also acquired six credit hours in education classes and observed 60 hours in public schools.
In my experience as a musician, I have found that teaching a subject I love can really inspire students to excel. It's necessary to spread our knowledge to others. As I taught for over 20 years at the primary level, I have used a variety of strategies for reading. Some students were visual learners while others were more auditory. As a result, one strategy did work for all. I learned to try many things until I found the ones that suited the child. I was always incorporating other curricula areas to reinforce the child's reading and writing skills.
I have taught grades k-2 in all curricula areas. We focussed on Reading, working with words, and process writing every day. I have also taught a prefirst program for students not quite ready for first grade and a multi-grade class for students in 1-2 grades. In 2009-2010, I was involved in tutoring 3rd and 4th graders in the area of Reading and writing who were not quite at grade level.
