I have wanted to teach since I was in second grade, and am currently working toward my license in Massachusetts. I believe that knowledge is an intimate thing, and that learning should be fun, and confidence-building. I use eliciting techniques, bringing student knowledge to the table first, and then build upon it. Knowing a student is important for preparing relevant materials for class. I believe technology is an important tool that can enhance the learning process when implemented appropriately. My teaching career began in 1972, as the first elementary school teacher in a system that had not hired male teachers in many, many years. I taught all subjects to fifth graders for 11 years. My strength lies in teaching English. In 2008, I taught ESL for one semester to people from different countries, but primarily Brazil, twice a week. In 2009, I taught English to grades 8, 9, 11, and 12 at a public school in Namibia, Africa. I taught English for 5 to 6 hours a day to students who possessed different levels of comprehension. My career changed in 1982 when I became a residential real estate agent and stayed in this field for 27 years.
