A Little Bit About Me...

As a special education teacher, I am highly motivated to see all students succeed both inside and outside of the classroom setting. I have earned a bachelor degree in Political Science with a minor in History and a master's degree in both Elementary and Special Education. I am currently finishing my certification in working with English Language Learners and receiving my ESL endorsement. I have worked extensively in the core classes in a high school setting but have worked and trained with all subjects in elementary and secondary settings.
Teaching is my passion. Students need to be challenged, engaged, and eager to learn which is fueled by the enthusiasm of the teacher. I recognize that not every student in my classroom learns in the same manner. Various teaching methods need to be combined so that students have the opportunity to learn in multiple ways. I think educators must take into account the different ways in which students learn. For instance, I've noticed that math students may have difficulty adding and subtracting fractions, but have no trouble whatsoever when I ask about dimes and quarters. If an instructor can build a bridge between new material and material the student has already mastered, the student's retention can significantly improve. By getting to know the interests and knowledge of each, I hope to discover bridges that will make learning an exciting and enjoyable process.
I graduated from Wake Forest in 2008, double-majoring in Mathematics and Physics. I also took some courses in the Education Department, and substitute taught for public high schools and middle schools in Winston-Salem, NC and Metairie, LA. I have worked in tutoring programs for elementary school children approximately twice a week fo ... read more

There are times when we need someone else to show us our potential and the talents we have.
