Prior to changing my undergraduate major to Geography, I was an elementary education major. I have always enjoyed working with students; however, at the time I wanted to try something different and is how I ended up working as a Park Ranger for the National Park Service (NPS). My experiences with NPS have allowed me to teach in an informal setting, by educating the public about their national parks. I also have the opportunity to present curriculum based education programs in grades K-5 about different aspects in NPS. My experiences have also pushed me to start a Masters of Science degree in Biology to further my knowledge. While I was an undergraduate, I was also a teaching assistant for physical geography labs. I am capable of adapting to the learning skills of the individual students with whom I affiliate. I substitute taught for nearly 3 years before I enrolled as a graduate student. I have several ways of motivating students to perform their best, and believe it is critical that they understand that they can master the methods of academic success.
