My comments on tutoring Spelling : I hold a Masters in Literacy from NC State University. Currently I am a National Board Certified Teacher in Literacy and will hold this certification until 2019. My NC Teaching License cover Language Arts, Social Studies, Reading K-12, and Elementary Education. I have taught reading from K to 12 and adult reading at the college level. My career has been wide and varied from teaching EC in the elementary school to suppervising graduate students at UNC-Chapel Hill in the Professional Development School.

My teaching style is very flexible depending on the student. I select programs which best fits the student, rather than forcing a student into a specific program that I prefer. My expectations are high for each student. When the expectations are set high, students tend to reach to meet these expectations. Thus it "stretches" each child to reach their maximum potential.
I began teaching in 1976 in Tarboro, NC. My first teaching experience was in the middle school, grade 8. After that year, I taught fourth grade for 6 years. My comments on tutoring Spelling : I can tutor spelling rules and exceptions to the rules.

I like to present information in a way that immediately engages the student and makes him or her want to learn. I have a great sense of humor and like to make learning fun. I give the student the information, help him or her process the information, answer any questions and make sure he or she understands by performing the task involved.
For the past 23 years, I have been working with the Testing Program for the state of North Carolina. I'm currently the English Content Specialist for Grades 3 and 4 Reading. I love to teach by using the hands on technique. I will do whatever I can to see that the student grasp what is being taught. It is so neat to watch how sometimes you will see the light flick on and you know they "have it". I also will provide hand outs and use the computer to give them extra practice.
I have four children of my own and home schooled each one through elementary school and some middle school. They returned to public school for middle school where I then provided tutoring for other classmates. I know sometimes math as well and other subjects come harder for one than the other so I realize the tutoring session needs to be geared toward that particular child.

Changing The World, One Child AT A Time

I was an assistant teacher to a 3rd grade class at Wilson's Mills Elementary from 2001 until 2003. My duties included assisted the teacher and helping the students in a manner to help them learn at their pace. And I also have an 8 year old son who attends River Dell Elementary. Spelling is one of my top subjects!

My teaching style is more hands on because that's how I learned fastest when I was in school.
I am going to school to become a teacher in the grades of kindergarten through 5th, I have been a nanny for several people and have enjoyed it completely! During my nanny duties, I would of course have a home-schooling section and would also help around the house when needed, so I think that I am a very good candidate for teaching basics and other subjects to help kids better themselves and their studies!

Reading and Spelling Tutor: Specializing in Dyslexia/LD/ADHD

I teach using the Barton Reading and Spelling System (an Orton-Gillingham based program). This program teaches students to read and spell phonetically (sounding out words). I use a multi-sensory method (see a word, touch a word, say a word, hear a word), so that the student is completely engaged in the lesson through the use of most of their senses. This program was designed for students with dyslexia and learning disabilities, but would help anyone (child or adult) that struggles with reading and spelling, especially individuals with ADD/ADHD. Experienced Science Nerd!

I have an undergraduate degree in chemistry with a pre-med emphasis. I work full time as a Lab Manager for Duke University.
