A Little Bit About Me...

Completion of a BSBA degree in Management of Information Systems has given me valuable experience in a wide array of business functions as well as a team based and case driven experience over four years. The strongest of my skills are in reading, math, and technology suites such as all Microsoft Office products. I have taught, under minimal supervision by the standard teacher for one year on the fifth grade level. I have tutored ESL, "at-risk," and conflict prone students in english, math, reading, science, and civics. Tutoring was done at the fifth, seventh, eighth, tenth, and twelfth grade levels both in school, after school, and home-based settings. I am also confident in tutoring freshman and sophomore level students in supply chain management, networking, and systems analysis and design with UML modeling.
In many ways, learning can be customized to fit the individual inter ... read more

I think educators must take into account the different ways in which students learn. For instance, I've noticed that math students may have difficulty adding and subtracting fractions, but have no trouble whatsoever when I ask about dimes and quarters. If an instructor can build a bridge between new material and material the student has already mastered, the student's retention can significantly improve. By getting to know the interests and knowledge of each, I hope to discover bridges that will make learning an exciting and enjoyable process.
I graduated from Wake Forest in 2008, double-majoring in Mathematics and Physics. I also took some courses in the Education Department, and substitute taught for public high schools and middle schools in Winston-Salem, NC and Metairie, LA. I love teaching and interacting with willing minds. Teaching "runs in the blood", where my mother is an excellent teacher in the Huntsville City School District, my father was a former teacher and all of my aunts and uncles functions or functioned in some teaching capacity. I believe that teaching should be made enjoyable and not laborious. The goal of teaching is to relate concepts and principles in such a way that a pupil is able to apply appropriately those principles in any situation that he/she may be confronted with whether in life or in a test. My joy is seeing a student excel and gain confidence in their ability to learn and to be tested on what they have learned.
My experience ranges a great deal and encompasses a lot of subject matter from K-12 Math to English and Literature. My wide range of expertise is indicative of my schooling where I earned a Bachelor of Arts deg ... read more

I enjoy teaching math because its something you use in every day life. When it comes to math, I am easy going and patient because I know how stressful math can be if you are struggling with it. I love having the skill to be able to teach another person that skill. In the past, I have used analogies to help students to understand. Some students were able to catch on when I would use a different approach with others. My goal is to make it as easy as I can so that the student will come to love using mathematics.
I graduated from Pisgah High School where I was in the Advanced program. I was required to enroll in the Advanced Math Program (Pre-cal) and Physics. I was also a part of the Math Team for four years and the Beta Club for eight years. As a student at Northeast, I earned a A.S. in Industrial Electronics, as well as, a Long Certificate in Electronics. I've b ... read more
