In tutoring, it is best to locate where the student is having trouble, and start at that point, since math builds on itself. I always begin by working 1 or 2 examples of a certain type of problem. Then, when the student is ready, let him/her work a similar problem. When the student has mastered that concept, we move on to the next type of problem.

My tutoring experience has begun in college, when I would assist with Japanese and math lessons between classes and the campus job. I try to teach students more how to think analytical more so then just solving problems because it is more beneficial to the student.
