I received my bachelors degree in elementary education in May of 2007 from Midway College. I began teaching second grade at Bourbon County Schools in August of 2007 and have been ever since. I was selected by my principal during my second year of teaching to receive the "Starfish" award. I obtained my masters degree in elementary education with an emphasis of reading and writing in 2012.

My comments on tutoring Elementary : Taught many years in elementary school settings

My teaching style reflects an approach that is hands-on, fun and engaging, uses humor, and lastly perseverance. I have a lifelong passion for working with children struggling to learn.
I am a recently retired special education teacher with 27 years classroom experience. I am currently a substitute teacher in the public schools. I have vast experience working with special needs students as well as struggling regular education students. I have direct hands-on experience working with students with learning disabilities, autism, ADD/ADHD, and sensory integration. I am trained in and have taught specific reading strategies such as Orton-Gillingham. I love to learn, which is why I love teaching children. Every child learns differently, because of this, teaching is a learning process as well! I believe that students learn best through hands on activities that allow them to internalize the concepts they are struggling with. Whether it is using math manipulatives to understand multiplication and division or using letter tiles to understand consonant blends in reading, hands on activities are the best way to learn.
As an education major at Berea College, I volunteered my services as a tutor three nights a week in addition to my student teaching and education courses. I was also a Pre-Kindergarten teacher during the summer terms while I was in college. I am certified to teach all subjects grades K-5. I have my masters degree in Reading and Literacy Instruction.
