I'm currently a student at Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota and I've covered many subjects in my 15 years of education. I've learned many of them well enough to teach them to my younger sister, who has ensured I review every subject two years after I complete it, rather than forget it forever. I have also helped many of my classmates understand various concepts as we learned them, which allowed me to improve my own understanding and my ability to explain things in ways that differed from the ways that didn't work coming from teachers.

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is unique in that I make the learning experience a two-way street between myself and whomever I'm teaching. I allow students to teach other students.I shun lectures in favor of open discussion. Most importantly, I incorporate different learning styles into my lesson plan so that visual, kinesthetic, oral, and linguistic learners have an equal opportunity to assimilate the information.
I have tutored, supervised, and entertained children and students since the year 2002. My first job was a theater specialist position at a day camp which taught me indispensable communication and multi-tasking skills. A Little Bit About Me...

I am in the Education field to make a difference in student’s lives. I hope to do this through instruction and example. I believe these two elements intertwined and essential for any educator. I am value the “Teacher as facilitator” education model. Today, I classify my teaching style as a constructivist theory with humanist elements. I have done a lot of teaching and tutoring, both with adults and young people. Most of my experience, though, comes from working with high school and junior high school students. I spent the majority of that time as a tutor/ mentor and would work with the students one on one or in small groups, both in the library or in the classroom. It was really the most wonderful experience and I was able to provide tremendous benefits to the students on both an academic and personal level.
I really do place something of a premium on being able to connect with all of my students on an academic and personal level. I believe that this helps them as they know that their teacher and tutor cares about them and their future and, as such, this causes them to grow and excel. A Little Bit About Me...

Every child learns differently. In a world where we corporately streamline everything so that it all comes out pre-packaged and exactly the same we often lose sight of how unique each person is. I find that listening carefully to a child's reasons for having difficulty can help you to better understand how to help them learn. I find that children are often given too little credit - especially children with special needs. All children can be more than the world expects them to be. I just enjoy helping them realize that.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have a BA in English and a Master's and Ph.D. in German (Germanic Linguistics). I have taught English literature as a substitute in junior and senior high schools, college level German, linguistics, English reading and writing and English as a Second language. I have taught and tutored children and adult learners. My teaching experience has been in Germany, California and Minnesota. I also tutored ACT/SAT in Minnesota.
I enjoy teaching students of all ages, individually or in groups. I find the Socratic method most useful, and with children this translates into making the subject (i.e. German grammar) seem like a puzzle that, with some effort, can be solved.
