First, and foremost, I believe that effective learning is both fun and relevant. I have always been able to make a game of it and to make it both interesting and challenging to others. My goal is never to teach them a rote solution, but to challenge them to think about the concepts and have then tell me the answers. This builds their confidence and solidifies their learning experience. I find that if they understand how a concept was derived in the first place, they seldom forget that story and therefore have learned something that will stay with them for a live time. I prefer to use the Socratic Method and draw the information from my students. Again, I think it is best if they THINK rather than learn. Over time I see all my students (and all our five daughters) have responded well to this approach.

I have found that there is nothing so rewarding as that moment when a subject 'clicks' for a student. By staying positive and adaptive I believe it is possible to guide students to finding solutions on their own. I work at finding new ways to approach common stumbling blocks and try to show students how applicable math is to everyday life. If it had not been for a few extraordinary teachers, I may not have felt it possible to accomplish what I have. Teachers should be positive and inpirational and I always strive to attain that goal.

A Little Bit About Me...

I like instructing using the latest visual tools. I like to make math alive, taking the abstractness of calculus and transforming it into something that is visual. I enjoy working with gifted middle school or high school age students.
As a graduate of F.A.U, I was very much driven to learn programming and prograaming languages, applying Mathematics and Algorithms to real time problems. During my 30 years as a consultant I taught several classes related to game theory and applied Calculus. I am current a member of Toastmasters international and enjoy public speaking as well as instructing and mentoring other club members. A Little Bit About Me...

During the last eight years I have worked full-time in vocational and adult education environments. In addition to ESL, I have taught VESL (Vocational English as a Second Language), and GED Preparation. I have lived outside of the U.S. for five years. During this time I learned the languages, and engaged in work projects including I.T. Consulting, telecommunications, and graduate studies. My heart is with my students and my assertive style allows students with significant barriers to gain access to employment. In high school I was able to tutor students in all subjects ranging from English to Math to Musical Studies. Furthering my education at Trinity University in San Antonio, TX really opened my eyes and mind to wider ranges of educational foundations. As a double major in Communication and Classical Studies, I was able to get a well rounded education in all subjects. I feel that I am also skilled in math and got a minor in Art History. I have always enjoyed tutoring students and seeing them "get" the subjects we are touching on.
