Direct and understanding of any needs.
As an honor student from the moment I entered school, I have been aware of the importance of education and the "no child left behind" policy. Although I have chosen the financial field for furthering myself, my love for helping students is undeniable. I always helped my peers through schooling, and in response have learned many communication skills needed. Regardless of student age, I am able to mold to their abilities and needs.

SAT/GRE Test Prep Expert(8+yrs Experience. UC Berkeley Grad

I have enjoyed tutoring since high school. During college, I tutored college level math and chemistry. After college I worked for a large test prep company teaching SAT prep courses in various high schools. My education background is in biology (BA Molecular & Cell Biology, UC Berkeley) so I especially love tutoring science and math. My expertise is in standardized test prep (mainly SAT and GRE for graduate schools). My experience is not only tutoring and teaching, but also developing test prep material for both SAT and GREs
Most tutors merely act as a solutions manual for off the shelf test prep books. I believe in providing my students a fully comprehensive curricula that covers both strategy and subject matter. Every student learns differently and at their own pace. I strongly believe in diagnosing and targeting student's weak areas.

Balance is the Key to Life

I was trained to be a teacher at CSU-Fresno, where I graduated in May, 1999. I substituted for 3 consecutive years in Fresno, Clovis, and Madera Unified School districts at grade levels 3-12. I received my Master's Degree in Sports Administration from the American Public University system in May, 2011, and graduated with Honors and a 4.0 GPA. I am currently trying to obtain my credential and hope to be an Athletic Director one day.
My teaching 'style' is a bit unique, in my opinion. By that, I mean that every child/student 'learns' differently, so I must 'adapt' my style 'on the fly' after determining what is the most effective approach/style/method for that individual student. In addition, the subject that I am teaching also affects my style and some 'tools' that I learned as a youngster and a teacher are also implemented frequently.

My comments on tutoring PSAT : Experienced in Math section but also knowledgeable in English Section

I've always enjoyed helping others understand mathematics. During my high school years i would voluntarily help my friends, and the classmates near me keep up with class lectures and provide them with tips to help them complete take home assignments. I know the importance of having a personalized method of teaching according to the individual and their specific needs. No one learns the same so we should not be taught the same!
Most of the students who require tutoring have trouble building on previous lessons they have learned. The problem is if a student fails to learn a concept in class by the time the teacher moves on, he/she will be left behind from that point on. The job of a tutor is to find these hold ups and patch them with a customized lesson plan to fit the students learning patterns. This is what i will do and i personally promise results in under a month

A Little Bit About Me...

Throughout my high school career I maintained a GPA of at least 3.5. The same can be said for my college career so far. By majoring in Liberal Studies, I have gained an extensive knowledge of teaching methods as well as the ability to teach many different types of learners. I have put this knowledge and ability to use both last semester and this semester by tutoring students at Fresno State. This semester, many of my students have learning disabilities. Last semester, every student I worked with passed the class we were working on.
It is my belief that teaching is an honor and a passion, not a profession. Everyone has a different learning style and teaching to an individual is very important. I also believe that teaching is as much a method of guidance as much as it is a method of instruction. Often times, students will learn on their own if you give them the opportunity fo ... read more

I enjoying helping others and teaching them what I know, whatever age they may be. I am very patient and friendly, which are characteristics I find to be important in a tutor. Also, I can be flexible in my teaching style, since I understand that not everyone learns in the same manner. I know that subjects such as math and science can be particularly difficult to understand, but I am willing to take the extra time to ensure that the individual I’m working with is able to grasp the material. Through support and encouragement, I feel that any type of learner is able to overcome their difficulties and be successful with their education. As a passionate educator, I was motivated to learn various teaching strategies that enhanced my desire to teach every student in need of an excellent education. To receive my Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education tremendously enhanced my knowledge to expand the horizon of every student that I taught. As an educator it is essential to know various teaching strategies for teaching math, reading, writing, science, social studies, art, and physical education. Various authentic assessments, integrated thematic units, hands on manipulatives, multicultural curriculum development , rubrics/portfolios, and building repoire with every student is of great significance in my teaching strategies. A Little Bit About Me...

I have been working with students since I was in Middle School myself. I went to college to become a special education teacher and am currently working as a resource specialist. I work with students who have learning disabilities, are at risk, have emotional disturbances, autism, or just need a helping hand. I have also taught in general education classrooms.
I believe every child is capable of matching and exceeding our highest expectations. Every child learns differently and that is my approach. I don't believe in cookie cutter education. I design programs around students interests, needs, and abilities. I believe that positive feedback and reinforcement get better results than negativity, and it is my job to help your child be successful. It is my job to help your child buy into their own education and realize how great it is to be a lifelong learner.

More About This Tutor...

I am a very down to earth person especially when it comes to kids. I always try to lighten up the mood and make learning things interesting and fun. I don't like to dismiss when I see a child having trouble in something. Every person has a different way of learning, I try to cater to each of their needs.
I have tutored children in reading last summer. It was one of the most gratifying things I have done. I worked with English as second language children ranging from ages 5 to 13. We used a lesson plan and several activities to help children in achieving their reading level goals. Also, in my undergrad experience, I excelled in writing and was very good with meeting deadlines.
