My comments on tutoring Journalism : I have over 900 articles published with the former "Globe Democrat."

I am a listener first and foremost. I want to know what my students expect from me and in what areas s/he regard as most essential to her/his success. I believe all people can learn and understand. It is a pleasure to watch students grow in skill and comprehension and move toward confidence.
I love teaching. I earned my BA before I was old enough to vote. While my classmates were in his/her senior year, I was teaching. Eventually I earned my M.Ed. in Reading, then started School Administration and Adult Education. In all these fields I find similar necessary skills: patience, co-operation among staff and colleagues, knowledge of subject matter, communication with the community and parents and a well defined curriculum. My comments on tutoring Journalism : I was on the journalism team all four years of high school, serving as managaing editor, and sports editor, and was the only writer ot be granted free-lance editorial writing. Furthermore, during college and since I've taken my knowledge of pharmacoogy, biochemisry, chemistry, anatomy, etc. and have written several referenced articels for the online health magainze www.mindandmuscle.net under my name Tom Rayhawk

I tutored at the mathew dickey's boys club working with grade school students ranging from the 2nd-4th grade. I would essentially go over all of their subjects with them and ensure that they not only completed their assignments but understood the material. In college at Iowa State University I tutored in both Anatomy & Physiology and Biochemistry. Although I have not worked specifically with students in need of writing skills, essay assignments - I was in journalism and wrote for the high school newspaper all four years and served as managing editor and sports editor. I love to work with and help children of all ages with their language skills and understanding. I like to teach through example and help children figure out their problems on their own, but with some guidance.
I am a recent college graduate with a BA in English (emphasis in Creative Writing). I have learned extensive grammatical skills and understanding through my work as an undergraduate as well as through my role as Non Fiction editor of our University's undergraduate literary magazine. I have experience tutoring non-native English speakers in English and have previously volunteered at day care centers, reading to children ages 2-5.
