My comments on tutoring Reading : I have taught reading for four years. I have taught grades Kindergarten through fifth grade reading curriculum. I provide reading interventions daily for my students, as well as the core reading curriculum. I am familiar with Corrective Reading, Six Minute Solutions Fluency, Sound Partners, etc. I have had extensive practice with teaching comprehension skills and building blending/decoding skills. I have been to several reading trainings, including Anita Archer. I have implemented several of her practices into my own classroom teaching.

I use various teaching styles within my classroom. I try to find how my student learns best and accommodate to their needs. All students learn differently, so I try to be flexible in my teaching style. I do like to make teaching as visual and hands on as I can.
I have been a teacher with CPS for four years. I am currently a Special Education teacher for grades K-5. I teach a caseload of 33 students ranging in abilities. I have a significant amount of experience teaching reading, math, and writing to struggling learners. In addition to working with students that have disabilities, I also have a degree in Elementary Education. I teach regular education students within my intervention groups throughout my school day. Spanish and English Tutor

I graduated from the University of Nebraska at Kearney with a BA in Spanish Translation and Interpretation and English. During my last two years, my Translation and Interpretation professor selected me to translate and interpret for the Buffalo County Diversion Program. Also during college, I tutored college students through the Center for Academic Success in Spanish and helped the students write and edit their paper (all disciplines). After graduating from college in 2007, I pursued my degree in education, and I have taught 7-12 English and Spanish for the past eight years. A Little Bit About Me...

Currently completing a double major (english/psychology) at the University level. I graduated in the top 10% of my high school class with Honors/AP credit. I have been a strong student all through out my educational career with a passion for learning and teaching others. I have previous experience tutoring in both English, ESL, and Math, working with students K-12 and some college level.
I prefer to let my tutoring sessions to be student led. What that means is that rather than treating the sessions like a teacher-student interaction, I let the student take responsibility for the work they want to improve. I have found that students who take control of their own education as opposed to being told to do so perform much better.

As a college graduate and a mentor at a behavioral health facility I have gained valuable knowledge and confidence in one on one guidance. I have a BA in psychology and a BFA in studio arts and I am currently pursuing a place as a PhD candidate in the educational psychology program at UNL. Also, I volunteered for the Lincoln Initiative for Tutoring program where I tutored elementary students after school and served as a role model.

I have been a Human Resources Manager for past 10 years. A good portion of my job is involved with training. While there are differences in training/teaching adults versus young adults and children, the basics are still the same. I have volunteered in the past as religious educator for children in first, second and fourth grade. I also did some volunteer tutoring over 8 years ago in Mississippi as I was involved with the local literacy council.
