Most of my experience comes from substitute teaching. I have been a certified local substitute teacher since September of 2010. I have taught everything from math and science to physical education and music while working as a local substitute teacher. A Little Bit About Me...

I like to provide a variety of activities for my tutoring experiences. In my past tutoring experiences for language arts I did everything from flash cards of sight words, to word games, and short stories, to poetry. I also incorporated a lot of nonfiction text within the students interests range because LPS seems to be pushing more and more for students to have more advanced nonfiction skills in order to be successful on the NESA tests given in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade. If I were tutoring a subject other then language arts I would use the same approach of incorporating a variety of activities to keep it new and exciting for the student I tutor.

My comments on tutoring Elementary Math : I've mentored six gifted students in math in the Lincoln Public Schools. The students were in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade and most of them were a year or two ahead in math.

I try to find out what a student is interested in and incorporate that. In my work with Lincoln Public Schools I often have extra time with students since we complete the required material more quickly than the general class, and I often use that for special projects that apply the concepts we're learning to fields like computer science, architecture, and art.
I've been a Mentor with Lincoln Public Schools for over a year. Mentors function as one-on-one teachers for gifted students in an area of their strength. I've taught math to elementary school students (many of whom were in middle-school level math) and am also qualified as a Chinese mentor for all levels and a Social Studies mentor. A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated with a B.S. in Elementary Education with a concentration in Mathematics. I spent a year as a Substitute Teacher in Lincoln, NE. I then took a year and a half break from teaching to recruit for a small college. I went back into teaching as a grade 7-12 mathematics teacher. I was responsible for the 7th grade through pre-calculus courses at Wheatland Public Schools in Madrid Nebraska. This school was then combined into Grant Public Schools. I am also a strong technical trainer in my current role and provide necessary computer and analytical training to all new associates at the current company I work for.
I teach to the student. I find exactly what their strengths are and incorporate it in some way to learn something new. Education is a set of building blocks and can only be as strong as the foundation.

A Little Bit About Me...

I first teach my student what the strings are in standard tuning, letting them know what they're playing on. And then I'll teach them the basic chords. The next step of the teach program is to teach them notes as well as other chords. After they get the chords and the notes progression, I'll teach them the scales and solos.
After taking one and a half years of guitar training, I believe that I can offer my students with the materials they need to play their favorite songs with the chords and strumming, as well as learning and coming up with new solos based on the theories that I teach them.

A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated with a Biopsychology degree or otherwise known as Behavioral Neuroscience. This degree enabled me to study organic and inorganic chemistry, biology (immunology, biochemistry etc.), math (statistics, calculus) and 1 year of physics. My favorite class, however, was a psychology class called learning and behavior. That class has honed my teaching skills and I enjoyed using those skills while tutoring adolescents in a wide variety of subjects, high school teenagers prep for the ACT exam, working as a teaching assistant for organic chemistry and tutoring an autistic child.
