I have a B.S. in Applied Mathematics from UW-La Crosse. I graduated in the spring of 2012. I was an on campus tutor and I tutored math from pre-algebra through Calculus II. I also have privately tutored algebra, pre-calc and AP Calculus. I have worked with students grade 5 all the way through the college level. I spent time volunteer tutoring in 2013 at the elementary/middle school I attended.
I think it's very valuable to try different tutoring methods to see what works best with the student. I'm very open to adapting to the student's needs.

I don't have a "one size fits all" approach to teaching; rather, I try to tailor my approach to the learning style of the student. I believe that each and every student has the potential to learn whatever subject matter is being investigated. My math teaching style relies heavily on problem solving and repetition. While going to college at the UW – Eau Claire, I've been a math and statistics tutor for the past four years. I've also been a Teacher’s Assistant for a statistics Professor where my duties consisted of running review sessions for the class before quizzes and exams along with grading homework and exams. I have completed four statistics courses dealing with different areas of statistics. I also have experience in one-on-one tutoring. Over the past four years I’ve tutored seven students individually meeting at the library to work. Last year, though, I worked with a student who had Cerebral Palsy. From my tutoring experiences last year, my teaching style would best be described as very proactive. Many of the students were extremely frustrated by the concepts that they did not understand. This created an apathetic attitude towards the subject. Due to the lack of interest that I observed, I decided to go through problem by problem with the students. I talked them through each problem, and asked the students questions, but required them to calculate the answer. As we practiced and practiced, the students began to use the techniques that I taught them to calculate the answers on their own.

A Little Bit About Me...

First I like to try to ask them where they are having trouble or watch them do some problems to see where they are having troubles. Where I find the problem I would show them the correct ways to approach a problem and prove it to them or use other methods to help them understand how the concepts work. I'm a good listener and very patient with students. Also with my computer science background, especially in statistics related applications, I can make demonstrations do demonstrate or even solve problems.
I often helped people with their math regardless if it was 3rd grade or college level. I'm always offering my help to friends around the area or even online.
